The City and County of Denver has a broad range of paid and unpaid internship opportunities that provide professional public sector experience for undergraduate or graduate students. Our internship opportunities provide experience beyond the classroom through work assignments and projects with industry professionals and supervisors in various fields of concentration.
For students seeking classroom credit for their internship, we will work in conjunction with your academic departments, Cooperative Education, and Service Learning Programs to allow you to earn college credit.
Internship Program Goals
We strive to provide an internship experience that is educational in scope and directed toward providing the student with an understanding of how the organization functions by:
- Instructing you about the organization. This may include priorities, major programs, products or services, structure of the organization, and examples of decision-making processes.
- Developing required social skills and adeptness.
- Designing a career development plan.
- Communicating with you to review progress, share observations, answer questions, assess overall performance, suggest areas of improvement and provide general support and encouragement.
- Communicating with your coordinator about your progress and overall performance.
- Participating in your evaluation and assisting in assessing the program’s overall effectiveness.
