Pet Licenses

You can get a new license or renew a license for your pet online. It's fast and easy, your license will be mailed to you in 1-2 weeks!
 
Here's what you need:
 
  • Internet Explorer browser
  • Your pet's name, breed, color, and age
  • The name of your veterinarian
  • Your pet's current rabies tag number and vaccination information
  • A Visa or MasterCard credit card
  • For renewals:

    Your pet's previous license number 

    and your person ID number

License Your Pet by Mail

To license your pet by mail, send your pet's current rabies certificate and a check for your one or three year license.  Make checks payable to "Manager of Finance" and send to the address below.  Please do not send cash.
 
  • For senior citizens (over 65)
    Send your pet's current rabies certificate and a copy of your driver's license or other proof of age to the address below.

  • For service dogs
    Send your pet's current rabies certificate and a copy of your pet's service documentation to the address below.

License Fees

Denver residents must license cats and dogs over 6 months old. 

This small fee offers great peace of mind if your pet is ever lost. The license number is linked to your pet's rabies tag, which can reconnect you with your pet if it is brought into a shelter. 

 
One year license $15
Three year license $40
Lifetime license $150 - valid for the life time of your pet - no expiration date         (by mail or in person only)
Senior citizens over 65

One free license per senior includes Life-time license
(by mail or in person only)

Service dogs

Free
(by mail or in person only)

Duplicate tags

License $6  - Rabies $3 
(by mail or in person only)

 
Note: Pitbull breeds are illegal in Denver and cannot be licensed.

Vaccinations

The Denver Animal Shelter rabies vaccination clinic is open to the public during the following hours:

Dogs:   Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Dogs & Cats: Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to Noon

(All other services refer to hours of operation)

 

Please have your dog on a leash when you arrive for rabies clinic and your cat in a carrier and/or pet taxi.

 

You may pay by cash, check, Visa or MasterCard.

Fees:
$35 - includes rabies, distemper/parvo and a (1) one year license for Denver County residents or out of county residents that use Denver dog parks.  
 
$55 - includes rabies, distemper/parvo and a (3) three year license for Denver County residents or out of county residents that use Denver dog parks.  
 
$175 - includes rabies, distemper/parvo and a Life Time license for Denver County residents or out of county residents that use Denver dog parks.
