What type of emissions test is required on a 1981 or older vehicle?

The test is required annually. Click on the Air Care Colorado logo below to be taken directly to their website.

Does a brand new vehicle need an emissions test?

A brand new vehicle that has never been registered and/or titled in any state is exempt from emissions testing for 4 years.

My vehicle failed the emissions test, what are my options?

Inspection centers in the Denver-Metro area are prohibited from performing repairs of any kind. If your vehicle fails the emissions test, Air Care Colorado will give you several pamphlets telling you:

  • How to go about getting repairs.
  • How to find a technician trained to repair emissions systems.
  • The options available if your vehicle fails the emissions test a second time.

For vehicles retested within 10 calendar days of the initial test, the retest is free. If your vehicle fails a second time and you have made repairs to the vehicle, you may be eligible for a free diagnostic evaluation. Contact Air Care Colorado or call their Hotline at (303) 456-7090 for details. Click on their logo below to be taken directly to their website.
