Denver Mountain Parks
Recreational Management Plan now available
Denver Parks and Recreation and Jefferson County Open Space together manage close to 40,000 acres of open space parks in Jefferson County that stretch from mountain peaks to the high plains prairie below. Despite separate ownership, these parks—and their wildlife, water, and ecosystems—work together as a regional open space system. Like birds flying through, people, too, pay little attention to whether they're visiting a Denver Mountain Park or Jeffco Open Space park. In order to manage this rich resource more closely and from a regional perspective, the two agencies recently have completed joint guidelines.
The Recreation Management Plan, completed in 2003, is a set of guidelines to help both agencies increase efficiencies, increase protection of natural and cultural resources, and improve the visitors' experiences. The recommendations are the result of 18 months of work, public input, and research. It was partially funded by a State of Colorado Local Affairs Heritage Smart Growth Grant.
