The City and County of Denver’s Certifiably Green Denver program is excited to announce that it has reached a milestone; 50 certified businesses and growing! The City program works with a variety of business sectors but has mainly focused on restaurants, auto repair shops and office/retail. Headlines – The Washington Park Salon marks not only the 50th certified business but the first salon to achieve certification in the program. Through this certification, Headlines has helped the City establish criteria that is applicable to any salon looking for ways to reduce their impact and operate sustainably.
“While some businesses naturally have a greater impact that we want to target, all Denver businesses are eligible to participate and we’re excited that as new businesses come online, we have the opportunity to establish sustainable practices that can apply to a variety of business types.” said Program Manager, Janet Burgesser. Whether a business wants to begin with one measure such as waste, or undertake all areas for certification, the program is available to assist and recognize a business for their efforts.
Managed by the Department of Environmental Health, Certifiably Green Denver provides free, confidential, non-regulatory environmental assistance to Denver’s business community through sustainability advisors. This enables businesses to find opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability while minimizing environmental liability through pollution prevention.
