Denver Selects Community Partners for Housing, Neighborhood and Business Development Projects

$7.75 million in federal funds to be awarded among 45 organizations

Dec. 2, 2010 -- The Denver Office of Economic Development (OED) has issued award letters to 45 organizations slated to receive federal grant funding totaling $7.75 million in 2011. Funds will be made available through the City’s allocation of U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding to support housing, neighborhood and business development projects.

“Strong partnerships provide the foundation for our office to deliver community development programs throughout the City and County of Denver,” said LaCharles Keesee, OED executive director. “We’re fortunate to have such a high caliber of community organizations to partner with in order to further strengthen our housing options and the further development of viable urban neighborhoods.”

OED issued a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) in July 2010 for proposals to be funded by HUD’s Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS programs. Applications were evaluated and scored by OED staff and select community members. Community members were chosen based on their knowledge and experience in the program areas of housing development, economic/business development and neighborhood development.
