The Office of the Independent Monitor ("OIM") Releases its 2012 Annual Report.on Friday, March
15, 2013. Established in 2005, the OIM provides independent civilian oversight of the Denver
Police and Sheriff Departments (“DPD” and “DSD,” respectively). The OIM is advised by a sevenmember
Citizen Oversight Board whose members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by City
The report provides an overview of complaints received, closed and monitored by the OIM in 2012.
It also provides select examples of actions taken by the OIM on DPD and DSD cases in 2012. In
addition, the report describes significant improvements in the timeliness of the DPD’s complaint
handling processes in 2012. The 2012 annual report, an electronic appendix, previous reports,
