Denver Parks and Recreation Announces its Summer Movies

Bring the whole family out to see some of the brightest stars, both on the screen and in the sky, at one of the Blockbuster Movies in the Parks. For the 5th year, Denver Parks and Recreation will host, along with our sponsors, 11 movies in park locations across the City.

Movies in the Parks are always family-friendly and fun-filled entertainment. These G, PG and PG -13 rated films start at sunset with plenty of pre-movie opportunities to play, meet the neighbors and enjoy free popcorn, snow cones and cotton candy. Other concessions also will be available for purchase.

With inflatable screens over 24-feet wide and a high-quality sound system, these unique movie-going experiences are enjoyable for everyone. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets or low-seating lawn chairs to enhance their viewing experience.

The June 26 showing of The Twilight Saga: New Moon at Sloan’s Lake Park will feature a state-of-the-art 40-foot-screen, thanks to a generous sponsorship from Summit Entertainment.

Sponsors of the 2010 Movies in the Park are Denver Community Credit Union and Downtown Denver Business Improvement District and Summit Entertainment.

Cancer Buddies 9th Annual Teddy Bear Drive

Giving together makes amazing things happen! When thousands of City employees give Teddy Bears and stuffed animals to Employee Assistance’s Cancer Buddies Annual Teddy Bear Drive, both children and adults find comfort. The Teddy Bear Drive is June 1 through July 31.

Each year the Annual Teddy Bear Drive accepts thousands of NEW teddy bears and donates them to Denver Health Medical’s Pediatrics Department. Receiving teddy bears makes the children very happy. This is a wonderful tradition where employees donate teddy bears and stuffed animals in memory of a loved one, a close friend or a co-worker, who they have lost to cancer. Many people find that giving to this worthy cause is helps them deal with their grief.

Employee Assistance is hoping to make this the largest drive yet! Won’t you please donate? If you are interested in becoming an agency coordinator, please contact Eileen Stamm, 720-913-3201. You will receive a small gift as token of our appreciation.

FRAUD ALERT

From the Office of Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey

Can I Freeze a Child’s Credit Report?

With the rise in identity theft, many parents are wondering if they can place the same type of “security freeze” on their child’s credit file as they can on their own. Good question. The answer is - Sometimes.

A parent or legal guardian can, in fact, freeze a child’s file – if a file exists. But hopefully, a child doesn't have a credit file to freeze. A credit file is only created when there is a request for a new credit relationship, such as a credit card. One way to make sure a child has not been the victim of identity theft is to make frequent requests for free credit reports under the child’s name and SSN from www.annualcreditreport.com.

If the credit agencies are unable to process the request – most likely, no file exists. Good News!
If a credit report exists for a child, it is almost certainly an indication of fraud. In that case, the parent or legal guardian can place a security freeze on the child’s credit file. The individual will have to provide proof that they are the parent or legal guardian and that fraud has occurred. Also, a police report should be filed with a local law enforcement agency.

A credit bureau cannot create a file for a child if a file does not already exist.

Questions or assistance related to fraud: Denver DA’s Fraud Line: 720-913-9179.
