Overview of Denver Health & Hospitals 5th floor Remodel
This Better Denver Bond Project remodeled the fifth floor of the main Denver Health hospital building in order to gain additional medical/surgical beds and to convert existing 2-bed and 4-bed rooms to private rooms. This project work has been completed. The work was part of a larger remodel/expansion project that the hospital is undertaking with separate funding to increase their total number of beds, which are needed as other hospitals are exiting the core of the city.
The $5.8M dollar bond budget was used to remodel approximately 19,000 gross square feet of the hospital’s 5th floor, to create a temporary Adolescent Psychiatric unit, and a Medical/Surgical unit. The ultimate (final) use for the 5th floor will be a 32 patient bed Medical / Surgical unit. A portion of the floor (approximately 10,000 gross square feet), is for a temporary Adolescent Psychiatric Care unit which includes private patient rooms, classroom space, a patient activity area and a nurses’ station. The new Adolescent Psychiatric Care unit was completed in the fall of 2010. The work on the Medical Surgical unit was completed at the end of 2010.
