Maria Mosina and Igor Vassine, is the newest installation by the Denver Public Art program by artist John DeAndrea, located in the lobby of the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.
Maria Mosina and Igor Vassine is a unique composition using the principal dancers Maria Mosina and Igor Vassine of the Colorado Ballet as models. The dancers are cast from life and ultimately appear in bronze, polychromed in oil. The couple is mounted on a polished black granite base, twenty inches high and sixty inches square.
“For me, realism starts from the very beginning,” said the artist. “The authenticity of the entire experience; the dancers, the costumes, the details of choreography, must be true in order for the realism to work on the level that I require.”
John DeAndea was born in Denver, Colorado. He received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder and also studied at the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque. His works are exhibited in numerous museums, galleries and private collections worldwide. DeAndrea currently lives and works in Morrison, Colorado.
