Artist Christopher Weed’s Stimuli consists of 16 larger than life, 18” in diameter, brightly colored spheres that resemble gumballs in color and shape. They flow in all directions throughout the school’s concrete plaza leading up to the west entrance. The spheres are constructed of powder-coasted steel and are tactile and smooth to the touch. These playful pieces are engaging to both children and adults. The artworks stand out from their surroundings while complementing the adjacent architecture.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Christopher Weed is one of seven children. He graduated with a B.F.A from the University of Maryland, with two years spent studying in Europe. Weed has completed 14 public art installations since 1998 in the U.S. and abroad. In 2007, 5280 named his Opening Doors at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center “Best Public Art in Denver” - Editor’s Choice. Recent commissions were completed for RTD light rail, the cities of Aurora, Lafayette, Boulder and Superior, CO. This is Weed’s first commission for the City of Denver. He is represented at A New Leaf Gallery in San Francisco, CA and Shidoni Foundry, Gallery and Sculpture Gardens in Sante Fe, NM.
