DPD Reserve Program
The Denver Police Reserve Unit is a group of civic-minded volunteers who serve our community as uniformed officers in the patrol division.Reserve officers work primarily with and under the supervision of a regular police officer in a marked police car, responding to calls for service in one of the department’s six geographic districts. Reserve officers also perform traffic and crowd direction at special events.

Minimum Qualifications
· 21 years of age or older
· United States citizen
· Resident of the State of Colorado
· High school diploma or G.E.D.
· Valid Colorado driver’s license
 
Uniforms & Equipment 
Reserve police officers are issued basic uniform equipment; including shirts, trousers, jacket, duty belt, cap, handcuffs, and other required items.
Reserve police officers are responsible for the following:
· Service weapon and holster
· Magazine case
· Flashlight
 
Reserve to Full-Time Officer
Reserve police officers who excel in their performance can be considered for full time employment in accordance with city charter section CS.65-3(1). Reserve officers accepted for regular employment attend an abbreviated police academy curriculum, followed by additional field training.
 
Testing
Applicants who meet the minimum eligibility requirements are considered for further processing. The examination process is completed through the Civil Service Commission. Testing consists of:

· Written Examination
· Physical Agility Test
· Psychological Evaluation
· Polygraph Examination
· Medical Screening
· Background Investigation

Training
Upon acceptance to the reserve program, recruits complete over 400 hours of intensive training that meets Colorado State requirements. Instruction includes both classroom sessions and physical skills training.  Reserve academy classes are held Monday through Thursday during the evening and on some Saturdays over a 19-week period. Graduates are certified through Colorado P.O.S.T. as Reserve Peace Officers.

Work Requirements

After graduation from the reserve police academy and successfully completing a field training program, reserve police officers are required to work a minimum of three (3) eight-hour shifts per month.
