TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Reconstruction of Holly Street Bridge

Bridge Work to be Phased, Traffic Lane Shifts

(Denver)…The City and County of Denver’s Public Works Department is reconstructing the bridge on Holly Street between Cherry Creek Drive North and Cherry Creek Drive South.

The construction is expected to take approximately 9 months. The start date for beginning of construction is May 7, 2007.  The project cost is $4.2 million.

 Phased Construction Plans:

Phase I

·        During the first phase of the project, Holly Street will remain open in both directions, but traffic will be shifted to the existing southbound lanes of Holly Street.

·        No left turn will be allowed from Cherry Creek Drive South to Holly Street (except buses).

·        Pedestrian and bicycle crossings at Holly Street will be maintained during construction, but during Phase 1, the sidewalk on the east side of Holly Street will be closed and pedestrians and bicycles will be directed to the west side to cross.

·        Also, during construction of the northeast corner of the Holly Street/Cherry Creek Drive North intersection, a detour route will direct pedestrians and bicycles to a signal crossing 400 ft. to the north.

 Phase II

·        During phase two of the project, Holly Street will remain open in both directions, but, traffic will be shifted to the northbound side of Holly Street.

·        No left turn will be allowed from Cherry Creek Drive South to Holly Street (except buses) and no left turn will be allowed from southbound Holly Street to eastbound Cherry Creek Drive North.

·        The sidewalk on the west side of Holly Street will be closed and pedestrians and bicycles will be directed to cross on the east side of the street.

·        In addition, at the Holly Street/Cherry Creek Drive North intersection, pedestrians and bicycles will be directed to a signal crossing 400 ft. to the north.

·        During this phase, a portion of the work will occur at night.  Only one lane on Holly Street will be open at a time and flaggers will safely direct traffic through the construction zone.

During the entire construction period, all north bound traffic on Cherry Creek Drive South at Holly Street will be detoured south on Holly Street to East Florida Avenue heading east toward South Monaco Parkway, where they can make a left and continue heading north.   At East Kentucky Avenue traffic can then turn west to get back on to Holly Street.

During those times that construction causes the Cherry Creek Bike Trail to be closed, bicycle and pedestrian traffic  will be detoured starting at Four Mile House and Historic Park on the west side and at David T. Garland Park on the east side.
