Wastewater Management is currently constructing a new under-ground storm water system in the area of 2nd and Steele, near Cherry Creek. The old surface draining system can no longer effectively move the large capacities of rain water, causing flooding and other nuisances. New 18' diamter pipe begins Jackson St., moving west and expands into 21", 24", 26" 42" and finally connects to the existing 48" concrete pipe draining into Cherry Creek. The average grade of this system is at 5 - 3%, almost leveling flat at a .2% grade on the 48" pipe. The photographs below reflect more of the detail of this massive construction project.
A worker assits the physical placement of the concrete pipe with the help of a large backhoe.

The worker will climb into the trench while the pipe is lowered in making sure the pipe is laid exactly according to grade.
Existing storm syphon no longer draining properly. Storm water should be entering through this grate, flowing under the street surface in existing piping, and "bubbling" up and draining on the street surface on the other side.
A new storm inlet into the system. These inlets direct flow underground towards the center of the street where they connect into the main line, traveling down hill with the grade until they connect in to the 48" storm system emptying into Cherry Creek.
This manhole was cast-in-place (poured) at its location. Manholes allow human access into storm systems for cleanup and repair, and also serve as junction points for pipes feeding into the main line.
The contractor has hired,an all-family subcontracting crew. They will be responsible for making sure the neighbors are happy with the clean-up after this massive construction.
This project began on July 9, 2001, construction duration of 120 days and is be completed by November 5, 2001. This project will install approximately 4,200 linear feet of mainline storm sewer pipe with associated storm inlets, inlet connector pipes, manholes, and appurtenances, all located northeast of Cherry Creek mall, in SE Denver.
