City Project No. PZ73300501, Lakewood Gulch Channel Improvements - Perry Street Bridge began in July 24, of last year with a scheduled completion date of June 19, 2001.

The project consists of constructing a 55" x 68" cast-in-place bridge on Perry Street on Lakewood Gulch South of 10th Avenue. Some storm and sanitary sewer work is involved in the project, as well as bikepath construction, landscaping and earthwork.
 
Over time, the water running through Lakewood Gulch had eroded a steep and dangerous cliff near Osceola. The City had installed a chain-link fence to deter people from entering the dangerous area, but it too, was failing over time.   The City corrected this danger by installing a new block retaining wall where the cliff was, and in the process moving the creek to the north which allowed for the creation of a pedestrain path along the creek. Additionally, in Perry street a bridge was constructed over Lakewood Gulch to increase the flood capacity to that of a 100 year flood.
 
The bikepath runs under the bridge so pedestrians no longer have to cross the street on the surface, and can pass safetly underneath to Martinez Park.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

This is the concrete retaining wall west of Perry St, along the north side of the gulch, providing an ADA access ramp to the bike/pedestrian walkway from Perry St.

This is the bridge after the concrete has been poured and the forms have been removed. The landscaping was also improved throughout this area, with the addition of many trees, shrubs, flowers and native grasses.
