Cherry Creek Greenway - Trail Extension Celebration

After five years of design, planning and construction, a new section of Cherry Creek Trail between Holly Street and Oneida Street will open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2009 with a celebration that includes Mayor Hickenlooper, representatives from Denver Parks and Recreation, The Greenway Foundation, and others.
The new 1.25- mile section of trail runs from the pedestrian bridge at Place Middle School along the south side of Cherry Creek, then goes under Monaco Parkway; continues, and then passes under the new Holly Street Bridge to connect to the existing trail. The completed trail section eliminates six hazardous street-level crossings. The $1.6 million project was primarily funded by a grant from Great Outdoors Colorado and the Better Denver Bond Program, with additional support and funding by the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District and The Greenway Foundation.
