Asbury and University Road Reconstruction
In less than two weeks, the intersection at University and Asbury went from potholed asphalt to smooth concrete. Over 24,000 square feet of deteriorating asphalt roadway and curb and gutter were removed and replaced with over 1,440 cubic yards of concrete placed as a 12-inch thick slab across five traffic lanes. All this work was completed while working over 60-inch and 30-inch pressurized water mains.

To minimize traffic disruptions, continuous flow was allowed for both north and southbound lanes on University through the intersection. Access to all businesses was maintained. The work was completed in two phases each lasting less than a week. The contractor, Concrete Works of Colorado, worked with Traffic Engineering Services to ensure that motorists would not be impacted significantly.

Traffic was also monitored remotely at the Traffic Control Center and timing was adjusted at adjacent intersections to further optimize traffic flow. The approximate cost of the project was $986,000.00.The project was delivered utilizing the 2005 Public Works Integrated Construction Contract managed by Parsons. This contract is made up of a series of public works projects.

Parsons is hired to provide construction at-risk services by procuring local contractors and then managing the work. Concrete Works of Colorado was hired by Parsons to complete this project which they did in an exemplary fashion. Construction started on July 18 and took fourteen days to complete which was 4 days ahead of schedule.
