The Denver Public Library plays an important role in childhood and adult literacy, readiness to learn, student achievement, lifelong learning, and providing a point of entry for new technology users. The Library also has a strong economic impact through services that improve workforce skills and small business development.

The Denver Public Library provides a high return because these materials are beyond affordability for many individuals. Last year, materials used by Library visitors added up to a cost of $130 million.  Materials valued at $4 million were loaned to teachers at our Denver Public Schools for classroom use.

Refurbishments/Compliance Upgrades:
any needed library improvements were postponed during the poor economic years of the early 2000s.  All 23 Denver Public Library facilities (except for the main branch) have improvements associated with the Better Denver Program. 1C will repair the Roofs, HVAC systems, boilers, electrical systems, fire alarms, and network infrastructure at many locations. Buildings must be brought into compliance with the American with Disabilities Act.  In addition, 1C will repair or replace libraries' interior finishes, fixtures and furniture, and bring technology needs up to date.

New Libraries:
Lastly, three new branch libraries will be built for underserved or high-growth Denver communities –Green Valley Ranch, Stapleton, and West Denver.
