7/17/2014 4:04 PM
Each year on the 3rd Monday of July, Denver City Council members elect a new President and President Pro-Tempore from their ranks. These two individuals serve in these positions until the following July and make up the leadership team for the Council.
The Council President has many responsibilities including, but not limited to making critical operational decisions for Council, presiding over the regular City Council Meetings, receiving and sending official City Council communications, creating the committee structure, and deciding committee assignments. The President Pro-tempore fills in when the President is absent.
For a complete list of Council President duties, see Rule 8 from the City Council Rules of Procedures.
Next Monday, July 21, 2014, City Council will elect a new President and President Pro-tempore for the 2014-2015 Council year. Councilwoman Mary Beth Susman will complete her second year as President and Councilman Christopher Herndon will complete his second year as Pro-tempore.
