MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: All Qualifications must be met at the time of Application
- Current Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification or state equivalent.
- Must have minimum of three years patrol experience.
- Must have experience as a full-time police officer with a state, county, or municipal police or sheriff department for at least one year preceding the date of application.
- Not currently under internal affairs investigation for any reason.

If you are an
out-of-state Lateral Entry Police Officer applicant, the Commission is holding special test dates of April 16 or 17, 2012 strictly for out-of-state Lateral applicants.
If you wish to take advantage of either of these test dates, apply as a Walk-In applicant. We will contact you via your E-Mail for these special April 16th or 17th dates.
OUT-OF-STATE LATERAL APPLICANTS: Upon submittal and approval of your Lateral-Entry supplemental application packet and the successful completion of the written/video test, the Commission may require you spend up to five (5) days in Denver at a later date to be announced. At the current time, you will only be taking the written test. If you are unable to schedule your test date in the period of time designated for out-of-state testing, we will make every attempt to accommodate your availability with advance notice.
ACADEMY INFORMATION:
The Police Department has a combined entry-level and lateral academy. Laterals start the academy at the same time as entry-level applicants and have the opportunity to graduate early. Depending on the performance of the lateral, he/she may graduate as early as 10-12 weeks.
SALARY INFORMATION:
Lateral entry recruits will receive basic recruit pay of $51,610.00 plus benefits while in the academy (effective 7/1/2012). However, upon successful completion of the academy, and at the discretion of the Manager of Safety, Lateral recruits may be appointed (depending on experience) to the rank of Police Officer Third, Second, First grade per Charter provision. Pay will be adjusted according to the appointed rank.
