According to 2004 U.S. Census data provided by the Piton Foundation,

The total population of the City and County of Denver is 544,116, of which

50% is White

35% is Hispanic or Latino (78% of which is from Mexico)

11% is Black or African American

3% is Asian

 

Of this population:

82% is native born

18% are foreign born (68% are non-citizens, 13% are asylees)

72% speak English Only

28% speak a language other than English (85% speak Spanish)

The State Demographer's Office estimates that there are about 133,079 Asian-American residents, and some 3,745 Pacific Islander residents, in Colorado as of 2006. In Colorado, about 74% of all Asian-American Pacific Islanders (AAPI) live in the Denver Metro area, with Arapahoe Co. being the largest county, followed by Denver, El Paso, Adams and Jefferson.  AAPIs are scattered widely in the Denver Metro area - strong pockets in Aurora (Korean, Cambodian), Adams Co (Laotian, Hmong), Denver (Vietnamese, Cambodian) (info from Asian Pacific Development Center)

 

 

What Languages are spoken in Denver?

 

Based on the 2000 Census, of those speaking a language other than English, Spanish is the more prominent followed by Vietnamese.  78% of those who speak a language other than English speak Spanish, and 3% speak Vietnamese.
