Depending How You Look At It, Denver Green Roof Changes Are Simpler Or More Complex

A Denver task force is finishing up revisions on one of the strictest green roof policies in the country. The proposed changes would give large buildings in downtown Denver more choices in how they comply with the ordinance voters approved last fall. The Denver green roof ordinance is modeled after a Toronto law. The goal is for green roofs to absorb heat and suck up water, slowing down stormwater that can flood streets.

Low-income renters at risk of eviction in Denver can now seek legal help from a City Council-backed defense fund

Struggling renters who face eviction in Denver can now receive help from a pilot legal defense program that launched Wednesday with money provided by the City Council. Several council members announced the program in January after pooling money that mostly came from taxpayer funds in their leftover office budgets. The fund for the pilot has grown to $131,500, drawing budgetary or personal donations from all 13 members.
