Waste Hauler 

Sec. 48   All Solid Waste Haulers who collect and haul waste, recyclables, organics, junk, construction/demolition/deconstruction debris, and bulky materials within the City and County of Denver must become licensed. 

Any person who desires to transport solid waste from within the city other than an individual who transports solid waste that he or she has generated, shall obtain a license from the director of excise and licenses and shall maintain a record of such license in each transport vehicle and at the solid waster hauler's address. It shall be unlawful for any person to transport solid waste from within the city without a solid waste hauler license, other than an individual who transports solid waste that he or she has generated.

How to Get a Business License

Application Fee: $25.00

Annual license fee: 

  • 1-2 Vehicles        $100.00
  • 3-9 Vehicles       $300.00
  • 10-20 Vehicles   $600.00
  • 21 + Vehicles      $1,200.00

Fees must be paid in person and can be cash, check money order or credit card. Checks should be made payable to the Manager of Finance. 

Your license will be issued when the following actions are completed:

  • All documents required for the license are complete and submitted to the Department of Excise and Licenses office. 
  • Fees are paid in full. 
  • Solid Waste Management will then send your license to your listed mailing address via certified mail.  

Renew your Business License

Renew in Person

Come to the Department of Excise and Licenses office. 

Request a renewal for your business license. 

You will be issued an invoice. 

Take the invoice to the cashier and pay the renewal license fee. 

Solid Waste Management will mail your license via certified mail to the mailing address listed on application. 

Renew by Mail
You can mail in your license renewal along with a check made payable to the Manager of Finance for the total city fees due. Be sure to include your Business File Number (BFN) on your check.

Licenses must be renewed on or before the expiration date to avoid penalty fees.

90 Day Grace Period

There is a 90 day grace period from the expiration date during which licenses can be renewed for a penalty fee.

First 30 days of grace period:  20% penalty fee

Days 31 - 90:  50% penalty fee

After 90 days:  Licensees will be required to apply for a new license
