My passion in life is working with young people in low income neighborhoods and connecting them with numerous opportunities in life. We have over 1,000 young people dropping out of school in Denver every year. I call these individuals “opportunity youth.” I believe our City has failed these individuals and I want to develop programs that will connect them to work and help them find their purpose.
With the continued growth we have been witnessing in Denver, there are number of opportunities for innovation and social entrepreneurial endeavors. We hope to support these efforts with incentivizing community spaces in upcoming developments. This year our office is also increasing our outreach efforts with local schools and the community to branch the divide between the two. By increasing community investment in schools we reinforce accountability to its students; and by increasing school investment in the community we reinforce accountability for its students towards the community. We seek to increase a sense of ownership in young people so they want to continue working towards building their community.
We will expand the summer youth job's program, develop a scholarship for the "Fine District 9" graduating high school seniors heading on to secondary education, and continue to support My Brother's Keeper initiative in Denver.
