YEAR-END 2016

It's that time again: time to close out another year. The city closes its financial records every December 31st, and reports the city's financial condition for the outgoing year. In order to complete these tasks, the city ensures that all transactions have been recorded in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The year-end close also includes the compilation of financial statements, for the production of the year's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

To ensure a smooth year-end close, and to meet crucial year-end deadlines, this page includes training information, reporting resources and important dates associated with the financial close of 2016.

Training, deadlines and cutoff dates

All departments/agencies must complete the 2016 year-end questionnaire and a reporting package, which may require subsidiary information as follows:

  • Long Term Accounts Receivable
  • Construction in Progress
  • Single Audit
  • Loans and Notes Receivable

The questionnaire and supporting documents must be submitted by February 10.

Before submitting the reporting package:

  • Confirm that the 2016 year-end questionnaire, and any other required reporting package, has been complete in full.
  • Verify that the name of the person that prepared the reporting package, and the person that approved the reporting package, have been entered on the applicable reporting package form.
  • Email the 2016 year end questionnaire and each reporting package to the person noted on the following table. Remember, only the primary fiscal officer should email the reporting package.

The questionnaire and supporting documents must be submitted by February 10.

This year, the year-end questionnaire will be delivered via an emailed link to a survey. Instructions on completing and submitting the survey will be part of the 2016 year-end training.
