Veterans Day Parade to honor veterans and first responders with special tribute to 9/11

United Launch Alliance (ULA) proudly presents the 2011 Veterans Day Parade and Fallen Heroes Honor Roll Reading, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, at 10 a.m. in Downtown Denver. This year’s parade will honor veterans and first responders, while paying special tribute to 9/11.

Masquerade Ball marks grand opening of Human Services building

Hundreds of guests and volunteers wore their best masquerade attire as Denver Human Services proudly celebrated the grand opening of its new Better Denver Bond building on Saturday, October 15, 2011. The event raised money to benefit GIVE Denver, a human services program that helps foster children, homeless and underserved families get connected to basic necessities, school supplies, holiday gifts and community resources with the help of donations and volunteers.

Foster, homeless and the underserved to benefit from Masquerade Ball on Saturday, Oct. 15

The band Phat Daddy will entertain hundreds of guests, along with Mayor Michael B. Hancock, Councilman Albus Brooks, and Denver Human Services Manger Penny May at the Occasions by Sandy Masquerade Ball on Saturday, October. 15. Guests will don masquerade attire to celebrate the grand opening of the new Better Denver Bond built Human Services building, while raising money for GIVE Denver, a human services organization that helps foster, homeless and underserved families.

Denver Office of Drug Strategy encourages families to eat together

The simple act of eating dinner with your children can decrease the likelihood of children abusing drugs and alcohol. The Denver Office of Drug Strategy is encouraging families and community organizations to participate in Family Day on September 26 by hosting their own Family Day Dinner and committing to eating dinner as a family and using the time to talk.

Voter Approved Human Services building to open October 3 at 3815 Steele St.

The Denver Human Services East Office, located in the Five Points neighborhood, will close its 2855 Tremont Pl. building on September 30 and reopen at the new 2007 voter approved Better Denver Bond funded building at 3815 Steele St. on October 3 at noon.

Campaign aimed at curbing youth binge drinking

Recent data suggest Denver youth binge drink at a greater frequency than other youth throughout the state and country.  One in five Denver middle and high school students report binge drinking in the past month, according to the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey conducted in 2008.
