DHS and Denver Juvenile Court Host 10th Annual National Adoption Day Event

Families Will Adopt 46 Denver Children into Forever Homes on November 14 

DENVER – Nov. 12, 2014 – Denver Human Services and Denver Juvenile Court are partnering for the tenth annual National Adoption Day event on Friday, November 14 from 9 a.m. until noon. A total of 46 children will be adopted into 33 families as part of Denver’s National Adoption Day event. National Adoption Day is a day to celebrate adoptive families while raising awareness for kids still looking for permanent, loving homes. There are 39 children in the City and County of Denver who are currently awaiting permanent families.

What:   Denver’s 10th Annual National Adoption Day Event

When:  Friday, November 14 from 9 a.m. - Noon

             Welcome Ceremony begins at 9 a.m., Adoption Hearings begin at 10 a.m.

Where: Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse, 520 W Colfax Ave, Denver, CO 80204

             Media check-in outside the Cisneros Jury Assembly Room

Who:    Families adopting 46 children into forever homes

           Speaking at the Welcome Ceremony will be:

    • Denver Department of Human Services Executive Director Penny May
    • Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Nancy Rice
    • Denver Juvenile Court Judge D. Brett Woods
    • Kim and Brian Cotter, Adoptive Parents

Due to confidentiality requirements, ALL video/photos are EMBARGOED until adoptions are finalized. Media should RSVP prior to the event by contacting Julie Smith or Leanna Salas.

Media outlets are requested to check in at the entrance to the Cisneros Jury Assembly Room.

 National Adoption Day is a collective national effort to raise awareness about the more than 100,000 children in foster care waiting to find permanent, loving families. The Denver Adoption Day celebration is an annual event coordinated by Denver Human Services and Denver Juvenile Court. This annual, one-day event has made the dreams of thousands of children come true by working with policymakers, practitioners and advocates to finalize adoptions and create and celebrate adoptive families.

In total, National Adoption Day helped nearly 50,000 children move from foster care to a forever family. This year, the National Adoption Day Coalition expects 4,500 children in foster care to be adopted on National Adoption Day.
