GIVE Denver Holiday Gift Drive Helps Hundreds

GIVE Denver’s annual Adopt a Family, Teen or Senior Holiday Gift Drive has delivered donated gifts to nearly 300 families, 100 teens and more than 100 seniors this holiday season. The goals of this year’s drive were exceeded thanks to the generosity of donors throughout the Denver area.

Cold Wx Shelter Options, Project Homeless Connect 15 Cancelled Due to Inclement Weather Forecast

Due to blizzard warnings and forecasts of potential heavy snow in the Denver metro area Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 16 and 17, organizers of Denver’s annual Project Homeless Connect have canceled the one-day event. Instead, city officials will focus efforts on outreach and providing shelter from the harsh winter conditions for the homeless in our community. Project Homeless Connect was previously scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 17. Organizers hope to reschedule the event for early in 2016, subject to space availability.

DHS and Denver Juvenile Court Celebrate 50 Adoptions During 11th Annual National Adoption Day

The Lindsey-Flanigan Courthouse was filled with laughter, joy and a few tears today as 50 Denver children joined 32 permanent adoptive families during Denver’s 11th Annual National Adoption Day event. National Adoption Day is a day to celebrate adoptive families while raising awareness for kids still looking for permanent, loving homes. There are 13 children in the City and County of Denver who are currently awaiting permanent families.

GIVE Denver Brings in More Than $8,000 with Annual Masquerade Fundraiser

Mayor Hancock Announces Child Safety Net Impact Team Transition to Children’s Cabinet Subcommittee

Mayor Michael B. Hancock today announced the creation of a child safety net subcommittee under the Mayor’s Children’s Cabinet and initiated the transition of the Child Safety Net Impact Team to the new subcommittee. The announcement, made during Mayor Hancock’s visit a gathering of the Child Safety Net Impact Team at Denver Human Services (DHS), institutionalizes the functions of the new Children’s Cabinet Child Safety Net Subcommittee as the group charged with continuing the work to make the city better informed and coordinated around the protection of Denver’s children.

DHS and Denver Public Schools Launch Pilot Coordination Program

A new pilot program designed to improve coordination between Denver Human Services (DHS) and Denver Public Schools (DPS) as it relates to child safety is now underway at three local DPS schools. Three DHS social caseworkers are now on site at select schools throughout the city to help facilitate communication between the two departments. The program stems from the initial recommendations of Mayor Michael B. Hancock’s Child Safety Net Impact Team.

Heating Bill Assistance Program Starts Nov. 1

Thousands of Denver residents will qualify for financial help to pay a portion of their winter home heating costs through the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP). This season, the number of qualifying households will be greater than previous years due to adjusted eligibility requirements.
