Grandparent & Kinship Program

We work to support you in raising your grandchildren or other related children by helping you meet their physical, financial, medical, emotional and/or educational needs. Depending on your family’s needs, the program may provide:

  • Financial assistance
  • Medicaid (medical insurance)
  • Transportation assistance
To be eligible, your family must meet the following criteria:
  • You must be a resident of Denver County.
  • The children must be financially eligible; your income and resources will not be counted.
  • You must be a caretaker relative who has not legally adopted the children. If you adopt the children, you become the legal parent and your income and resources will be used to determine eligibility.
  • You must verify your relationship with the children.
  • The children must be in school full time. If they are between the ages of 16 and 18, they may be either in school, or in an approved training program.
  • You must cooperate with Child Support in locating both the father and mother of the children.
As part of the application process, you may be required to provide the following information:
  • Social Security Numbers for ALL household members
  • Proof of the children’s income and resources
  • The children’s original birth certificate
  • Legal documents that verify your relationship to the children
  • Your driver’s license or other picture ID
  • Court orders for child support and/or paternity--if you have them
