While foreclosure cases dropped in much of Colorado, 4.2 percent more cases were filed in Denver in 2016 than in 2015. “With the strong real estate market, we anticipated the number of foreclosure filings to go down in 2016. Instead they went up,” said Denver Clerk and Recorder Debra Johnson. “We had 30 more cases in 2016 than in 2015.

Denver is growing and so is the number of marriages in the City. A record-breaking 8,024 couples tied the knot in 2016. That’s 685 more couples than in 2015.

DENVER – When a home goes to a foreclosure sale, it may sell for more money than the owner owes the bank. That extra money is called “excess proceeds”. Currently, Denver Clerk & Recorder Debra Johnson has her Public Trustee staff working to get more than $1.3 million in excess proceeds to Denver residents.
