Health in All Policies (HiAP) refers to integrating health, well-being and equity considerations into the development and implementation of policies in non-health sectors. It involves a range of activities, including health impact assessment (HIA), to achieve better health outcomes and reduce health disparities (differences in health between populations including where you live).
Denver is using a Health in All Policies approach to add health considerations and recommendations to City plans and policies and other regional plans.
The I-70 East project began in 2003 as a combination highway/transit improvements project for I-70 from I-25 east to Tower Road. The I-70 East Reconstruction Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement (submitted 10/2014) analyzes two build alternatives: revised viaduct alternative; and the partial cover lowered alternative.
The I-25 and Broadway Station Area Plan
(in process) will create a community vision for the station area. This station area is one of Denver’s greatest transit-oriented development opportunities outside of Denver Union Station. When complete, the plan will provide a framework plan, vision elements, strategies, transformative projects, and implementation strategies for the future evolution of the station area. It will also identify needs and make recommendations for infrastructure, mobility, parking, land use, open space, economic development, housing, partnerships, and other cultural and community investments.
Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG) is working with the region's residents to update Metro Vision 2040 (in process). Metro Vision 2040 will continue to focus on key regional issues such as transportation and the environment. Additionally, the planning process will explore two critical issues in depth – housing and economic development. Metro Vision currently lacks detailed goals and policies related to addressing the region's housing needs and supporting economic development by emphasizing quality of life issues that are increasingly important as businesses make decisions about locating or expanding in the Denver region.
Affordability of bus and light rail fares and passes is identified as a significant barrier for low-income communities reliant on transit. The Mile High Connects Affordable Fares Task Force (in process) is built of a coalition of over 100 organizational partners who are working with the Regional Transportation District (RTD) to address transit affordability for low-income residents in RTD’s new fare proposal.
