6200 West Hampden fatal accident

On Sunday April 8, 2012, at 11:52 a.m. Denver 911 received a call regarding an Auto/Pedestrian accident at 6200 West Hampden Avenue on the south side frontage road. The initial investigation has determined the driver of a white SUV lost control of the vehicle, ran over a pedestrian jogging on the sidewalk and then ran into the house at 3545 South Harlan Street. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A victim from inside the house suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Cell phone theft warnings

Denver Police are seeing an increase in cell phone thefts across the country, particularly in the Northeast. In Denver, the number of phones taken in the commission of a crime from January 1, 2012 through April 1, 2012 is 462, which is the same number for that time period in 2011. However, the number of Apple iPhones increased from 95 in 2011 to 155 in 2012, a 63.2% increase. It is unknown why there is an increase in one particular brand... Read more

Help identify Sheridan Blvd homicide suspects

On Sunday, April 01, 2012 at approximately 4:10 AM, the victim, Jimma Reat, age 25, a native of Sudan, along with other family members and a friend were returning home from a family visit. They were driving north on Sheridan Boulevard in a white, 2010 Dodge Charger, rental car. Near West 10th Avenue, the male occupants of a burgundy colored Jeep Cherokee began following and harassing them. One of the occupants of the Jeep threw a bottle at the rental vehicle, breaking the rear window and one brandished a handgun.

Shots fired at 2370 W Alameda Ave

On 03-17-12 at approximately 3:23 A.M. in the parking lot at 2370 West Alameda Avenue, officers were on another call when they heard numerous gun shots and realized they were being fired upon. An older model light colored SUV that is possibly involved was seen speeding off southbound on South Zuni Street from West Dakota Avenue after the shots were fired.

In-custody death after traffic stop - Update

The Office of the Medical Examiner has completed their internal autopsy of the suspect. They found a large quantity of suspected narcotic incased in balloons in the suspects stomach. It appears one or more of the balloons burst or opened, releasing the content into the victims system. The suspect’s information will not be released at this time pending identification and notification by the Office of the Medical Examiner. Previous Release

In-custody death after traffic stop

On April 1, 2012, at approximately 9:20 PM, Denver Police Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of 47th Avenue and Washington Street. Upon contact the suspect became combative and attempted to assault the officer. The suspect was taken into custody after a brief use of force. After being handcuffed the suspect walked to the police car and was placed in the back seat. A short time later the suspect was observed in what appeared to be medical distress...
