Denver Updates Community on Sheriff Department Reform Work

DENVER – Executive Director of Public Safety Stephanie Y. O’Malley today provided an update on the City’s continued effort to implement reform within the Sheriff Department. “Considerable work has transpired over the past few months to create implementation plans for the 400+ recommendations received during the reform endeavor, and to develop an over-arching master implementation plan,” said Executive Director O’Malley. “Recently, steps have been taken to establish a framework that will ensure those plans, and their related deadlines, are adhered to. A compliance project manager has been hired and a compliance plan is currently under development.”

DENVER – Executive Director of Public Safety Stephanie Y. O’Malley today provided an update on the City’s continued work over the past 30 days to implement reform within the Sheriff Department. “In addition to the important, ongoing creation of action plans for each reform recommendation, attention has been paid to the development of a master implementation plan,” said Executive Director O’Malley. “The master plan will help us minimize overlap amongst the Implementation Action Teams’ work, inform the timing of activities across the reform effort, and guide the remainder of the implementation process.”

Mayor Hancock Appoints Patrick Firman as Next Denver Sheriff

DENVER – Mayor Michael B. Hancock today appointed Patrick Firman as the next Sheriff for the City and County of Denver. Firman will lead a department undergoing an extensive reform process, and will work alongside the Implementation Team led by Executive Director of Safety Stephanie O’Malley to effect the recommendations provided in the comprehensive report for reform of the Denver Sheriff Department.
