Adoption Process

  • Required Documents: A Driver's License, Photo ID, or Passport and documentation of your current residence.
  • Payment Options: Cash, Check, Visa, or Mastercard.
  • Meet and Greet: Before adoption, a Meet and Greet is required for all homes with children and other dogs. The Meet and Greet is to assist with a smooth adoption process and to ensure you find the perfect match.
  • Spay and Neuter Information: Pets that are already spayed or neutered can be taken home at the time of adoption. Pets that have not been spayed or neutered prior to adoption will remain at the shelter. A customer service representative will schedule the next available appointment at our facility and provide the date and time of pick up for the newly adopted pet. (In the event your pet is unable to be altered, a $100 cash or credit card refundable deposit is required in order to take the animal home. A customer service representative will explain the refund process.)

    Hold Program

The Hold Program helps customers reserve an animal—prior to it becoming available for adoption— by making a non-refundable donation at the customer service counter.

    • Holds can only be done in person at the shelter.
    • Only two holds are allowed per animal:
      • First Hold: $15
      • Second Hold: $10
        • An individual cannot put both the first and second hold on the same animal.
    • The non-refundable donation does not count toward the cost of adoption.
    • A hold donation does not guarantee adoption. All animals are evaluated by DAS staff (including a veterinarian) to assess their health and behavior before being eligible for adoption. Once the animal has completed the assessments, the adoption coordinator will call the individual with the first hold (then the second hold, if necessary).

DAS adoptions include spay/neuter, vaccinations, & 1-year pet license.
