August 28, 2014 – Denver Animal Shelter (DAS) is temporarily limiting its services between August 29 and September 1 to help reduce the spread of an upper respiratory illness that has impacted a number of dogs at the shelter. 

The following services are unavailable from August 29 to September 1:

  • Stray dog intake from the public
  • All adoptions
  • Saturday vaccination clinic (August 30 only)
  • Owner-requested euthanasia
  • Microchip services

Denver Animal Shelter will be closed Monday, September 1, 2014 in observance of Labor Day.

In just the past month, Denver Animal Shelter has seen more than 50 cases of parvovirus in stray and owner surrender dogs coming into the shelter. Canine parvovirus (parvo) is severely contagious, preventable virus that is often fatal in young dogs. To help prevent the spread of this deadly virus, Denver Animal Shelter will be offering free parvovirus vaccinations for dogs 1 year and under on a walk-in basis from August 3–31.
