This guide is intended to provide you an overview of the permitting process for glass replacement and/or window replacement. A building permit is only required for window replacement if you live in a designated historic landmark or inside a designated historic district.
No permit is required you meet both of the following conditions:
(1) if your property is not a designated landmark or inside a designated historic district, and
(2) you are only replacing glass or window frames and not changing the size of the window.
For window projects that involve changing the size of a window opening or creating a new one, see the project guide for new/bay windows.
