The City and County of Denver in partnership with the Denver Housing Authority is sponsoring a strategic transit-oriented development planning process for the Decatur-Federal station area. The federal agencies of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Department of Transportation (DOT) are jointly funding this planning effort through 2010 HUD Community Challenge and DOT TIGER II Planning grants.
The Plan process will focus on the one-half mile radius around the Decatur-Federal LRT Station located on RTD’s West Corridor in Denver’s Sun Valley neighborhood. This neighborhood in particular must overcome numerous barriers to fully take advantage of the West Corridor public transit investment. The Station Area Plan and GDP will serve to provide valuable insight for stakeholders, the public and public agencies, and to attract future investment for underutilized land and a clear Master Plan for DHA’s Sun Valley Homes property. With increased understanding of the infrastructure, risks, costs and opportunities associated with this station area, the plan will also serve to create a development vision for the planning area.
After a busy year of community engagement, visioning, technical analysis and planning, the Planning Board DRAFT Decatur-Federal Station Area Plan in the Sun Valley Neighborhood is available for your review.

The Better Denver Bond Program has budgeted $12.6 million dollars for the land acquisition, design, and construction of a 28,000 square-foot library at West Colfax Avenue and Irving Street. The facility, anticipated to be complete in fall 2013, will provide much-needed services to the West Denver neighborhoods which have lacked a nearby branch library.
Community input helped to determine the library’s location, character, and components. The state-of-the-art two story building presents a welcoming approach from all directions and an interior which facilitates interaction and learning. The main level provides a lobby, a Children’s area, and a Community Learning Plaza which will accommodate classes, meetings, presentations, and gatherings for up to 100 people. The Children’s area offers space for technology, arts and crafts, and a story time tower incorporating public art. The second-level features a technology space with 50 computer stations, an adult reading alcove, teens spaces, study rooms, and a meeting room for 20 people. These amenities are centered around an outdoor reading room on the second floor.
The branch will offer the latest in library technology, including customer self-checkout stations, e-books, public computers, Wi-Fi and an automated materials handling system.
