• Lost or damaged title

    Emissions test

If your title has been lost, stolen, damaged, or has altered legibility, you can obtain a duplicate title at one of Denver's DMV branch offices (Denver residents only). If you are not a Denver County resident, please visit the State of Colorado DMV website to locate your branch office.

How to obtain a duplicate title

    1. Denver residents must provide owner identification (secure and verifiable) or designated power of attorney completed and notarized Form DR2175
    2. Bring a completed Duplicate Title Request Form DR 2539A.
    3. Be prepared to pay the title fee.

    Duplicate titles for lienholders

    1. If you are a lienholder and want to submit a duplicate title request for a title with an active lien, a lien release must be submitted. The lien release must be on the lienholder's letterhead (letterhead is not required if lienholder is an individual). Photo and fax copies are accepted and must include vehicle year, make, VIN, titled owner's name(s), agent's signature, date of lien release and must be signed under penalty of perjury in the second degree as defined by Colorado state law (C.R.S. 18-8-503).

    2. If you are applying as lienholder and the lien is not filed in Colorado, you must include a power of attorney completed and notarized Form DR2175 from the owner or, in the case of repossession, include a Statement of Repossession and a certified copy of the security agreement.
