Denver is experiencing a cultural renaissance. As we envision ourselves as the “Creative Capital of the West,” we must ensure that the entire cultural community can participate in this exciting period by advancing policies and initiatives that support the economic health of arts and culture organizations. One of the most significant ways in which we can boost Denver’s creative sector is by supporting affordable, suitable, permanent and sustainable creative space. In January 2006, Mayor John W. Hickenlooper convened the Mayor’s Task Force on Creative Spaces to explore, examine and conceive—in the broadest of terms—efforts to preserve, expand, foster, and develop creative spaces in Denver.
