Community Recreation Programs

CLUB information: 2014 Programming To Be Determined

The Denver Lightning Cross Country club is a structured recreational training program for youth ages 7-14 offered through Community Recreation, Denver Parks & Recreation. The coaching staff has a mutual passion for developing youth in the areas of distance running and track & field. All coaches are experienced and focus on helping each participant mature as an athlete while building character, developing positive sportsmanship and self discipline.

Registration:

Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

• Begins Monday, July 28 – until full (50 max).
• Bring payment and birth certificate to verify age.

Ages: 7-14

Session Dates
: 8/25/14 – 10/18/14 (pending meet schedule)

Practice Days and Times:
Mondays and Wednesdays (5:30 – 7:00 p.m.)
Location: Washington Park, 701 S Franklin Street


Track Meets: Saturdays, dates and time TBD through CARA Cross Country.  The schedule will be distributed the first week of the program.

Cost: $50 per child (includes team jersey). Financial assistance is available for those who qualify.

This program offers teens the opportunity to become familiar with a host of skills that will help prepare them for the future, as well as introduce them to what is required to work as a Recreation Instructor with the City and County of Denver. 

Teen Leadership participants will gain knowledge of these skills through meaningful discussions, activities, shadowing Recreation staff, participating in planning and executing projects, and taking part in breakaway sessions. This program will not only provide teens with skills they can use for a lifetime, but it will also provide them with a fun and safe environment in which to learn.

Min. Age:  13-17

Cost:  $50 (Assistance available to residents)

Field Trips:  An additional $5-$40 per week (cash)

Program Dates: September 22 - November 17, 2014

Program Days: Mondays for 10 weeks from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Program is limited to 12 participants. Program cost: $50.  Financial assistance is available.

A recreation program for youth that provides a wide range of adventure based activities from which teens may develop lifelong social skills and experiences.  Field trips include learning to scuba dive at A-1 Scuba & Travel, X-Arena, Paddle Boarding, etc.

Min. Age:  13-16

Cost:  $82 (Assistance available to residents)

Field Trips:  An additional $5-$40 per week (cash)

Session Dates:  6/19/14-8/8/14 (No programs 7/4/14)

Days/Times:  Thursday & Friday/Times will vary

Locations:  Primary - Community Recreation, 1849 Emerson St., Denver, CO  80218. Other locations will vary and will be provided with the program calendar.

Registration for Teen Adventures is limited to 40 participants, 10 of whom are youth with disabilities. Community Recreation summer programs have been a collaborative project with Adaptive Recreation since 1986.

Applications and Additional Information

The S.O.A.R. After School Program is a licensed child care program designed around four components of extended learning opportunities. Meaningful skill development is built around academics, sports and wellness, arts and culture, and community engagement. This safe and inclusive comprehensive program implemented by qualified youth developers, also incorporates healthy snacks daily. Students also have the opportunity to experience two field trips throughout the year. S.O.A.R. is committed to building a healthy after-school community; therefore we ask that students attend program daily.
