FAQs - The 5 By 5 Program

The 5 By 5 Program is a program for Denver Head Start and Early Head Start families, which provides year-round access and educational opportunities at 15 of Denver’s cultural venues at no cost to families. The goals of the project are to support families in preparing children for Kindergarten by connecting the Head Start classroom to the rich learning opportunities available in the community.

Eligible children must be currently enrolled in a Denver’s Great Kids Head Start program (Catholic Charities, Clayton, Denver Public Schools, Family Star Montessori, Mile High Montessori, or Volunteers of America), Rocky Mountain SER Head Start programs or one of the three Denver Early Head Start programs (Clayton, Catholic Charities, or Family Star).

Each Denver Head Start and Denver Early Head Start program distributes 5 By 5 educational materials (a wallet-sized pass card and calendar) to participants at the beginning of each school year, or upon enrollment.  Additional educational materials may be distributed through Head Start sites throughout the year.

5 By 5 pass card holders receive FREE unlimited year-round family entrance (2 adults, the pass card student, and siblings under the age of 12) and other items for the pass card student to the following venues:

  • Only the pass card student will receive a gift, such as the carousel ride or wagon ride, from the cultural venue during their visit, not family members.
  • The 5 By 5 pass card is nontransferable and intended for use only by the family to which it is assigned.
  • The 5 By 5 pass card can NOT be used for special exhibits and events that require an additional fee, such as the Denver Zoo Lights, King Tut Exhibit, etc.
