The vision of the Mayor's Early Childhood Education Commission (MECEC) is to promote school readiness and support quality education programs that assist families with limited resources in providing care for their children.

Mayor's Early Childhood Education Commission Leadership Award is given annually to an organization that:

- Supports educational programs that assist families with limited resources

- Provide culturally and linguistically responsive policies and services to young children and their families
- Increase access to systems for families with young children needing services
