The Children’s Cabinet is Mayor Hancock's initiative to bring together a group of city departments and partner agencies to:

  • Coordinate and align city programs, services, and resources
  • Improve communication between City agencies
  • Develop strategies to best serve Denver's children and youth


The Denver Education Compact is Mayor Hancock's initiative to create a new and binding agreement requiring the City, Denver Public Schools, higher education and community stakeholders to make specific commitments to improve education throughout Denver.

Creating a Citywide System of Support

The Denver Afterschool Alliance is a diverse collaborative of community stakeholders working together to ensure Denver's youth have access to quality afterschool programs and enrichment opportunities.  

The Denver Afterschool Alliance is diligently working to:

  • Create a city-wide data tracking and sharing system
  • Improve OST program quality
  • Strengthen partnerships across sectors
  • Build public awareness and support for programs

Mayor Michael B. Hancock announced five fundamental goals for the City and County of Denver to help ensure all Denver kids have their basic needs met, are prepared for academic and professional success.

The goals, which will be implemented through meaningful partnerships with civic, philanthropic and business leaders and nonprofit organizations, are to:

  1. Increase the number of children served by early childhood education programs by aligning publicly  funded programs
  2. Increase the number of Denver third grade students who can read at grade level
  3. Reduce the number of disconnected youth
  4. Increase the number of high school students who complete a postsecondary pathway and obtain a job
  5. Reduce the number of overweight and obese children.

The coordination of resources and services will be spearheaded by the Office of Children’s Affairs. .

The Office of Children's Affairs is dedicated to ensuring Denver's children and youth have their basic needs met, are ready for kindergarten and prepared for academic and professional success.  By increasing access, participation and quality for all families in Denver, this mission can be accomplished.
