Mile High Scholars

Each year, the Mayor of Denver honors Denver Public School students as Mile High Scholars.  

Students are selected by the principal and faculty of their school for modeling good leadership, respect for self, others, and the school environment, and for supporting their peers. Schools can select one student from every grade, 1st grade and above, for this honor.  

Students receive a certificate, a picture with the Mayor, tickets to sporting events and cultural venues, and a bumper sticker to display their achievement.

Each year, the Mayor of Denver honors Denver Public School students as Mile High Scholars in a city-wide ceremony.  Students are selected by the principal and faculty of their school for modeling good leadership, respect for self, others, and the school environment; and for supporting their peers. The number of students selected from each school is determined by the school's enrollment.
This year's ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the Buell Theater in the Denver Performing Arts Complex.
Each Mile High Scholar was mailed one free parking coupon, which must be presented to the cashier upon entrance at the Denver Performing Arts Complex garage on Arapahoe Streets, between 13th & 14th streets.  This parking coupon will not be honored at surrounding parking areas or on any other day.  The cost for parking for families and guests is $10-$12 each.   
Each Mile High Scholar will sit with his or her school and principal in reserved seating.  Mile High Scholars were mailed a ticket with the seat assignment.  Ushers will also have the seat assignments and will be able to help Scholars find their seats.  Please arrive early to help your Scholar find his or her seat and for your family and guests to find seats in the open seating section, which is available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please remain seated until the entire program is over.
Scholars can invite as many guests as they would like.
If you have a name correction, please call 720.913.0909 and leave a message with the student's name, correct spelling, and school.  Please speak clearly and slowly.
Cameras are welcome.  In addition, there will be a professional photographer taking pictures of each student as he or she shakes the Mayor's hand.  A free 5x7 photo will be sent to the school within three weeks following the event.  If you want to order additional photos, call Bernard Grant Photography at 303.861.1450.
Scholars receive a packet with a certificate, a bumper sticker, and various tickets to cultural and sporting events.  Please check your tickets carefully, as they must be used by a specific date.  Please note that not all Mile High Scholars will receive the same items.  We cannot replace tickets if they are misplaced.
The ceremony is similar to a graduation ceremony.  As each scholar is announced, he or she will come on stage with his or her principal to greet the Mayor (and have his or her picture taken with the Mayor) and other dignitaries.  When they come off the stage, they will return to their seats for the remainder of the program. 
Interpretation services will be available at the event.  Please call 720.913.0909 to leave a message with the language requested and we will do our best to accommodate the request.  A Spanish-language interpreter and an interpreter for the hearing impaired will be present at the event.
