June Green Business of the Month: Project Angel Heart

Project Angel Heart is a non-profit organization providing healthy delivered food to vulnerable citizens across Denver.  Originally started in 1991 Project Angel Heart now serves over 900 hundred meals per week and recently prepared and delivered its five millionth meal!  Sustainability is a large part of Project Angel Heart’s operating principles.  They reside in a LEED building in north Denver, promote sustainable volunteer positions and utilize their own vegetable garden when preparing healthy food.

Project Angel Heart was initially certified green in 2012 and has continued to demonstrate their environmental commitment through innovative practices such as:

          • Installed a bee hive on the property to aid fruit and vegetable growth in their garden and nearby community.
  • Actively pushing waste minimization and waste diversion through reusing meal bags, adding extra recycling bins and composting kitchen scraps. In 2014, they diverted 55 percent of waste from the landfill.
  • Joined Denver's Non-Profit Energy Efficiency Program (NEEP) to re-evaluate their building's energy and water use and re-commission the HVAC systems.

About Green Business of the Month: Each month, certified green businesses have the opportunity to be honored as the Green Business of the Month by telling CGD about their ongoing green activities and new projects. CGD selects the Green Business of the Month by evaluating which projects are most impactful, unique, and engaging. The chosen business will recognized on our website, Facebook page and presented with a certificate. Get in touch with your advisor or email us to tell us about your recent projects!
