Fire Prevention

Saving lives and property by understanding and preventing disasters in the first place.

The men and women of the Fire Prevention Division are dedicated to promoting life safety throughout the City and County of Denver.

We do this through continuous and efficient fire protection practices that enforce the Denver Fire Code--a code based on international safety standards and sharpened through local experience. These fire prevention practices include comprehensive programs of inspections, permits, life-safety system testing, licensing, public event safety, hazardous material code enforcement and public education. Although we’re not highly visible--we’re not usually in a position to rescue anyone from a burning building--this division has been quietly at work behind the scene for decades, saving lives and property by preventing disasters in the first place. It has also contributed to keeping Denver’s insurance premiums low.
