
The City and County of Denver provides several types of paid leave to help employees achieve a work/life balance:
PTO offers flexibility to employees in accessing and managing time off because it provides one leave bank that can be used for both vacation and sick leave purposes.
Eligibility
Eligible employees hired or re-hired after December 31, 2009 and employees hired prior to January 1, 2010 who elected to convert from the sick and vacation leave plan to the PTO plan.

Sick and Vacation
The sick and vacation leave plan provides two separate banks, one for sick leave and one for vacation leave.
EligibilityEligible employees hired prior to January 1, 2010 who remain continuously employed by the City and who did not voluntarily elect to receive PTO benefits.

Bereavement Leave
Eligible employees in the PTO leave plan may use up to forty (40) hours of paid bereavement leave, per incident, due to the death of a member of the employee's immediate family. These forty (40) hours of bereavement leave will not count against the employee's PTO bank.
Eligibility
Eligible employees in the sick and vacation leave plan may use up to forty-eight (48) hours of their accrued sick leave hours due to the death of a member of the employee's immediate family.
Holiday Leave
The City provides eleven (11) paid holidays per year to eligible employees.
- New Year's Day (January 1);
- Martin Luther King Day (third Monday in January);
- Washington's Birthday (third Monday in February);
- Cesar Chavez Day (last Monday in March);
- Memorial Day (last Monday in May);
- Independence Day (July 4);
- Labor Day (first Monday in September);
- Veterans' Day (November 11);
- Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday in November);
- Christmas Day (December 25);
- Personal holiday (one (1) personal holiday on a date agreed upon by the employee and the City to be used within the calendar year).
Other Paid Leave
Eligible employees may also be eligible for paid court leave, election leave, administrative leave and military leave.
