Denver's Road Home has partnered with Denver Parks & Recreation and Denver Rescue Mission to open an additional cold weather emergency shelter at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center located at 3880 Newport St. This temporary shelter will operate throughout the storm, which is expected to last until Saturday morning to ensure the safety, warmth and well-being of our most vulnerable residents.
This temporary shelter will offer homeless men a safe and warm place to stay. When all homeless shelters for men fill to capacity, they will be shuttled from the Denver Rescue Mission’s Lawrence Street Shelter to Martin Luther King Jr Recreation Center. The temporary shelter will be open from 7:30 p.m. - 5:30 a.m. beginning tonight through Saturday morning.
Additionally, our community remains committed to ensuring women, children and families have access to shelter. If shelters fill to capacity for families, women and children, they will be issued a motel voucher for the night.
Denver’s Road Home appreciates the support from the Denver Rescue Mission, Denver Parks & Recreation, Salvation Army, The Delores Project, Urban Peak, the faith-based community and the rest of its partners for helping the homeless stay safe and warm throughout this cold spell.
The Martin Luther King Jr Recreation Center will continue to operate on a normal schedule for recreation users.
