Mayor Hancock thanks Denver Broncos Defensive Tackle Kevin Vickerson for helping GIVE Denver fulfill school supply lists

Mayor Michael B. Hancock thanked Denver Broncos Kevin Vickerson for adopting 200 students through the GIVE Denver Adopt-A-Student School Supply Drive today during a reception for selected families at the Denver Public Library Downtown Children’s Library.

“Back-to-School time can be exciting and fun for kids to buy clothes and new backpacks, but it can also be a stressful time if families are struggling to help their kids be prepared with school supplies,” said Mayor Hancock. “We are so grateful to Kevin Vickerson for partnering with our GIVE Denver program to adopt so many students and help them start the school year right.”

Kevin Vickerson teamed up with Mead Paper, 5 Star Notebooks and Sam’s Club to “adopt” 200 students and distributed backpacks with school supplies to elementary, middle and high school students at today’s reception. The students were all referred to GIVE Denver from Denver Public Schools.

“Being prepared with schools supplies helps every student start the year off ready to learn,” said Denver Human Services Manager Penny May. “We filled nearly six-hundred backpacks with the supplies children need to fully participate in class this year.  Our foster youth and other families in need are counting on us for these supplies, as there are no government resources dedicated to this need. We can only make this happen with the generosity of our community and sponsors like Mead Paper, 5-Star Notebooks, Sam’s and Mr. Vickerson.”
