United Launch Alliance presents the 2013 Denver Veterans Day Celebration, Run • Rejoice • Remember. The celebration will honor those who have served in the armed services at the Denver Veterans Day Celebration, Run • Rejoice • Remember, on Saturday, November 9 in downtown Denver. The event will kick off at with the Denver Veterans Day 5K race, followed by a parade and honor roll reading, and conclude with a celebration on Auraria Campus that will feature a variety of family-friendly activities.

The City and County of Denver and Denver’s Road Home are working hand-in-hand with homeless shelter providers to launch its Winter Overflow Shelter Operation, which will remain in effect through April 30.

Organizations throughout the Denver Metro Area will be hosting family day events throughout the week to encourage families to eat together as part of the effort to prevent risky substance use in children and teens. Family Day: A Day to Eat Dinner with Your Children is a national movement to celebrate parent engagement as an effective tool to help keep kids substance free.

On Tuesday, September 17, Denver’s Road Home, Mile High United Way, the City and County of Denver, Bank of America, ReadyTalk, US Bank, Xerox and more than 80 organizations will host Project Homeless Connect 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Colorado Convention Center, Exhibit Hall B.

This event is a free resource fair open to people of all ages who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless that will provide help in one place. Community partners will provide free services ranging from medical care, legal help, assistance benefits, clothing, haircuts, hygiene bags and additional services. Additionally, dozens of businesses and organizations will connect people to jobs and career readiness services. Throughout the event, individuals and families will be paired up, one-on-one, with volunteers to ensure that they are receiving the assistance that they need. Child care will be offered at the event.

A recent Healthy Kids Colorado survey reports that 85 percent of middle school students in Denver do not drink alcohol. To continue this positive momentum, various Denver city agencies are teaming up to connect youth to positive activities this summer.
